The Cuisinart CPT-180, is a classic 4-slice toaster. If you are looking for a toaster that can get the job done, well and consistently, without complicating things unnecessarily, then this is the best option for you. It’s lever operated and the toast setting can be adjusted with a knob.
This toaster has a very traditional look, and traditional operation. No LCD display or anything like that, but the buttons do come with handy led indicators to let you know which mode is on. It has a beautiful, brushed nickel exterior which will look great on any counter top. Nice wide slots that can accommodate any bread. And the knob turns very smoothly and precisely, going from the lowest browning setting of 1 up to 6. Just like it’s older brother the CPT-440 this toaster also has two controls panels, one for each two slots on either side, so that you can toast different things on different settings at the same time. This is especially handy for families in the mornings.
Although nowadays, button operated toasters are taking over the market, there is one advantage of the classic lever action over the button, and that is, you can lift the toast up using the lever when it’s done to help you take it out. We all know how annoying it can be to have to fish for bread, especially in a toaster that has very deep slots, well the Cusinart CPT-180 does not face this problem. The lever is more than adequate to take even the smallest piece of bread out.
It comes with three button settings. There is the defrost setting, meant for heating up frozen items; a bagel setting, used to toast bagels nice and evenly; and finally a reheat setting, for the times that you forget your toast in the toaster and get busy with something else, only to find that your toast has gotten cold. Well no need to re-toast the whole thing, that will usually burn it, instead you can simply reheat it using this option. And we found that by doing this, much of the original crispiness is still kept. It also comes with a handy CANCEL button so in case you turned the setting too high, the press of a button will stop all heat immediately and the toast will come out.
The toast quality is great, it toasts evenly and does so on both sides of the bread. It takes around 3 minutes to get a golden brown toast done on white bread, and a little longer on bagels and waffles. In-fact we found this toaster to work really well on all types of breads including, artisan bread, English muffins, pop-tarts, waffles and even frozen pancakes.
It also comes with a slide out crumb tray that makes cleaning it very easy. Overall the build quality is very sturdy, it is made in china but tested to North American Electrical Standards, so you can be sure it is a very reliable toaster.
The verdict. This toaster is a great looking, classic American toaster that works consistently to produce evenly golden brown bread. With the very reasonable price tag of $60 we can easily say this would be a great purchase for any buyer.
